The future is autonomous

First there were mechanized systems. Then automated systems. Now there are autonomous systems that bring intelligence to machines so they can sense, plan and act in a changing environment. Autonomous systems promise to unlock tremendous leaps in productivity and safety. Bringing intelligence to autonomous systems at scale requires a unique combination of machine teaching, advances in deep reinforcement learning and using simulation for training. Where will this take us in the future? It’s up to the imagination.

Our unique partnership

Hitachi Solutions has partnered with Microsoft on Project Bonsai to speed the creation of AI-powered automation to help improve product quality and efficiency for our customers.  Our engineering professionals and experienced AI team can work with your engineers to tailor Bonsai technology for your specific industry and complex use cases. What is Project Bonsai?

Project Bonsai uses deep AI learning algorithms tackle real-world problems. It’s designed simply enough so that traditional engineers can use it and it is especially suited for enterprises leveraging industrial control systems.

Bonsai consists of a chain of tools that are used to build brains, or models that use deep reinforcement learning, simulations, and machine teaching techniques. Through these techniques a Bonsai Brain can proactively offer operators best options, increasing operator effectiveness, reducing quality issues, and avoiding downtime. The process experts from your organization specify desired outcomes and criteria, then supervise the brain as it works to solve problems in simulated virtual environments. The process experts provide feedback and guidance that trains the brain to dynamically adapt within the simulation. Once the brain is sufficiently trained in the simulation, that knowledge is continually reinforced using deep machine learning.

Ultimately, Bonsai can be used to power autonomous systems in real-world applications and transform your process operations.

Are you a good candidate?

  • Do you make important and impactful sequential decisions under significant complexity, uncertainty, or change?
  • Do you operate in highly complex, highly variable processes and control scenarios?
  • Do you already use IoT, automation, or AI initiatives in an operational domain?
  • Do your processes require highly skilled workers that have years of experience?
  • Do you have a culture that values disruption and applying emerging technology?

The Value

  • Reduce downtime and improve overall throughput by building AI that predicts bottlenecks and maintenance
  • Upskill your control and process experts by empowering them to create and apply AI without a data science background
  • Improve safety and reliability with AI that can predict problems and recommend optimal control responses
