As I begin my third month at Hitachi Solutions, I can’t believe how the time has flown. So much to learn about this innovative Microsoft partner, and so many talented and inspiring people to connect with!

Actually, the people were one of the reasons I was so drawn to the company. Their passion for what they do, the business value they deliver to clients, as well as their social responsibility and community spirit, really impressed me. And I just wanted to share a recent example of this with you.

As often happens when a new leader joins a company, it creates opportunities to hit pause, reflect on how things are working, and if needed, make changes. In this case, it was decided to end a vendor contract. This resulted in available funds that needed to be spent fast, or they would go to waste.

While many ideas were initially floated around about how to use the funds — everything from team t-shirts and swag, to work-from-home employee lunches to client thank you gifts — almost immediately the conversation turned to giving back to the community. Specifically, to the local communities where our employees live and work.

Without hesitation, the team determined to take the money, turn it into DoorDash/Uber Eats gift cards, and distribute them to hospitals near and around Hitachi Solutions North American offices. They really wanted to show their appreciation and thank the front-line workers there for all their hard work and dedication through these stressful times.

Our team wanted the hospitals to be able to buy the staff lunch or dinner on a particularly difficult day, or bring in munchies just because. While a small gesture, the team thought providing them with an easy meal to refuel would be a meaningful way to show our gratitude and support.

I’m amazed at the thoughtfulness of my new team, and very proud to work with such a caring and giving group of people. This experience has proved my initial thoughts about their passion and commitment were spot on, and more than just a corporate pillar or talking point. This giving spirit makes me excited to meet and collaborate with even more of my colleagues as I settle into my new role here at Hitachi Solutions.

For the curious, here are the hospitals we are supporting with this effort:
