Hitachi Solutions America Holds Book Drive, Builds STEM Kits for Local Schools

Hitachi Solutions America is donating books and learning guides during its company all-hands meeting in Denver, Colorado.

IRVINE, Calif. — May 21, 2018 — Hitachi Solutions America, a leading provider of global industry solutions powered by the Microsoft Cloud, is pleased to announce it has partnered with two local charities, RAFT and Reach Out and Read Colorado. During the company all-hands meeting in Denver, Colorado in late April, Hitachi Solutions America’s employees donated books and STEM kits to these two Colorado charities.

“Our Denver all-hands event provides each of us with an opportunity to learn, gain more company, industry and product knowledge and build community amongst our team,” said Michael Strand, Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing at Hitachi Solutions America. “As an organization, we wanted to extend that comradery and support to the local community, so that as our team comes together to learn and grow, members of the local area can too. By donating to two local charities in the Denver area, we were able to offer a bit of support and assistance to children in grades K-12.”

Over the course of the weekend, 362 books were collected and donated to Reach out and Read Colorado. Employees from across North America brought new and gently used children’s books for the book drive. Reach Out and Read Colorado gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. By building on the unique relationship between parents and health care providers, Reach Out and Read Colorado helps families and communities encourage early literacy skills, so children enter school prepared for success.

Hitachi Solutions America’s employees were also encouraged to build STEM kits for RAFT, a non-profit organization with a focus on inspiring, engaging and educating children through the power of hands-on teaching. During the all-hands meeting employees put together 300 STEM kits — which are math and science-focused learning guides — to be donated to Denver area school children.

“Hitachi Solutions America’s values have always been about respect for others, learning and education, and supporting each other. Giving back has always been a part of what the organization is about,” said Lisa Mitchell, Director of Human Resources at Hitachi Solutions America. “Our employees are very caring and very supportive of each other, be it personal or professional. In fact, through the course of this conference and putting together this charity event in Denver we learned that a number of employees are involved in their own charitable events and are eager to expand this initiative. We will probably start working this Fall on a more formalized program.”

Hitachi Solutions America was honored to help support Colorado school children and is proud to contribute to local communities across the country as we continue to focus on charitable causes.
